WHAT IS RADON?                                                                          Radon is a colorless, odorless gas that cannot be detected by human senses.  It is found naturally in some soils and rocks, like granite. It is formed from the decay of naturally occurring radioactive materials such as uranium. Also, since radon is not chemically reactive with most materials, it will move freely as a gas.  The earth is the source of all radon gas in our atmosphere

HOW DOES RADON ENTER THE HOME?

AIR:
The most common way radon enters the home through the foundation.  Once in the home, radon is trapped and can build up. The average indoor air level is considered to be1.3 pCi/L.  You would want to consider mitigating your home above 2.0 pCi/L.   EPA guidelines recommend installing a system at 4.0 pCi/L or above.
    WATER:
Another way radon can enter your home is through well water.  Radon in well water can contribute to the amount of radon in the air.  Typically 10,000 pCi/L of radon in your water will contribute 1.0 pCi/L of radon to the air.  This is done when you run faucets, take showers, do laundry and flush the toilet.  The recommended action level in Connecticut for radon in your water is 5,000 pCi/L.

A&R Environmental, LLC employs certified technicians who can test and design an appropriate radon reduction system for your home in order to reduce the associated long term risks. We take great pride in spending the extra effort necessary to design the most effective, less visible, quietest system available at competitive prices.
